I bet this show is going to be really funny. I've seen a few of Dave Punch's short films and they were HILARIOUS.

A Dave Punch fan - that's awsome. If you like Dave Punch, you will love this show. If you like funny, you will love this show. If you like watching Dry Paint - not for you.

Laura Kightlinger is the smartest woman doing comedy today. I've been a fan of hers since her early days in NYC, when she was generous enough to have contributed a brilliant piece on stand-up work for a book I edited, and this new series looks FABULOUS. As a writer for a bunch of newspapers, I'm eager to see the first episodes so that I, too, can discuss details about the new series, thereby getting a new flock of audience members for her--and I hope this gives Laura all the success and attention she can manage. Which is, I suspect, quite a lot.

i finally figured out why i loved will & grace so much - i saw laura's name in the credits! that 'splains everything! rock on, sistah! after moving to the bible belt from so. cal. (cha, what was i thinking??!!!) i've had a helluva time with people just not "getting me". if only there were more wry, acerbic bitches on tv, well, my life would be ever so much easier. (not that rednecks would watch it anyway but at least i could tell 'em, "hey - check out jackie woodman if you don't get it!" you narrow minded, judgmental losers [not that i'm being judgmental or anything...]) anywho, keep up the good fight - love you, laura (in a purely hetero, platonic sort of way) - s

Due an unfortunately timed power outage, I missed the premiere episode - can anyone explain to me why IFC is showing each episode only once (with a replay 3 hours later)? Even the IFC website omits any replays.

I saw the first episode, and I think this is freakin great!! It's not overdone, or overplayed, it's dead on! Laura Kightlinger is dead-pan (brilliant) comedy at its best, and the girl from the Nanny is a scene stealer. I gotta say this is a show worth watching. Smart writing aside, the show uses a lost comedy art form...subtlety...and oh how I've missed that on TV lately. Sally F**king Kellerman?! Brilliant. And if I get a vote, can Conner be naked in every episode from here on out??? I don't know who the hell that actor is....but hello, gorgeous!! This show has me after episode 1...
Posted by: Michael F | Aug 5, 2006 3:41:14 PM
Way to go Laura! Great premiere! (The power stayed on this time - see previous post) I have high hopes for this! Intelligently concieved, written and acted! Take that Broadcast Networks!

I have not watched TV for about ten years. I found this show discussed on the internet and thought, "Wow, the first show I have had ANY interest in since Seinfeld". LOOKS GREAT.
Now, I gotta get satellite to watch it???
Posted by: Amy | Aug 7, 2006 9:30:39 AM
Michael F - You sound like a fan! It seems to be spreading. Blogs are writing and word seems to be spreading. If you love Conner and want to see more... you will be very happy with episode #5!!!!
Latexicon - my thoughts exactly. thanks!
Amy - or digital cable... or a friend with satellite or digital cable. Add uncut movies and how can you miss?

Great show. I loved the music throughout, but couldn't catch the band name in the credits. Laura Kightlinger is perfect in this role.
Posted by: nicky lo-fi | Aug 12, 2006 2:49:48 AM
I caught the credits and the first one is for the music-
It's Moris Tepper of Tom Waits, PJ Harvey, Frank Black, etc. fame. He's got a website-www.candlebone.com, I've been a fan for years and was soo excited to see and hear he's the exclusive composer and songwriter on a great new show like this.

Looking forward to seeing the show tonight. Just want to add that Laura is HOT! Not black comedy PC but no one else has mentioned how being that smart, dark and funny is downright sexy. Laughing and lustin Laura! Thanks!
Posted by: Scott b | Aug 15, 2006 3:28:10 PM
Laura is the highlight of Lucky Louie and so I TIVO'ed her show straight away. Love it! Especially the "Step Up" show.
Posted by: Brianna | Aug 18, 2006 2:21:45 PM
I can't find the name of the guy who played the co-writer tonight - he looks and sounds very familiar. Anyone know who he is?
Posted by: ashley r. | Aug 19, 2006 2:22:41 AM
Laura is hilarious! So refreshing to see a dark, smart, edgy comedy on tv...
Great music(love the theme song!)by Moris Tepper - nice to see him involved in a cool new show - always been a fan of his.

Finally - a truly funny, real show about Hollywood - Laura is hilarious.. So clever, I will keep watching! Love the music too - Moris Tepper's music is perfect for this show..
Posted by: ann | Aug 21, 2006 10:09:29 PM
Wholly smokes-episode 3 beats them all so far. Great comedic writing and cool underbelly acting. And who's Moris Tepper? Gotta' be the best music I've heard on TV for years! Can't wait for episode 4!

someone asked about moris tepper - saw him play with pj harvey in his band this year-awesome show..

Absolutely hilarious series...loved Laura as the nurse in Will and Grace and it's even better now because we get to see more of her. Keep up the good work.:))))

I also thought the actor who played the co-writer seemed familiar-- finally figured out I'd seen him as the creepy deputy in the horror film "Cabin Fever." His name is Giuseppe Andrews.

In episode (105) tuning manure into soy....the credits listed collen camp & mary kay place....does any one know who these actresses played in said episode>>>??
Posted by: Doug Strobel | Sep 2, 2006 2:36:21 AM
Jackie's way too smart for almost all the folks she has to wade thru to get to the ultimate prize ... what fabulous writing and razor-sharp zingers she gets to let fly, just about every episode I've seen ... and why isn't Colleen Camp credited (or did I just miss it?) for her Angela Birnbaum role? ... I can't find a single mention of her connection with the series anywhere on the 'net ... sad that she's done a South Park-Sally Struthers transformation on her physique, but her character is hilarious and pathetic at the same time ... kudos to IFC, of course, for making this excellent work available

Last nights episode was terrific! OMG Conner and Tara storyline made me pee. Serriously, I think I dated a guy just like that. This show gets better week after week. Definately watching. And definately tellling my friends to watch!!
Posted by: Hillary | Sep 2, 2006 9:01:11 AM
RE Episode 105: Colleen Camp played Angela Birnbaum. She has put on a lot of weight and I almost didn't recognize her. She's hilarious though. I think Mary Kay Place is the voice of Jackie's mother. Correct me if I am wrong. BTW, I'm really glad we are rid of the co-writer with the irritating voice. At least, I HOPE we are rid of him! Great music too. Jackie makes Entourage look like a Disney movie.

I have watched 'The Minor Accomplishments' since it first aired, and I have just found out this 'season' is ending after two more episodes. I may as well just cancel my cable until it comes back on, since there is nothing other than crap being televised at this time(no offense, Henry Rollins) And to comment to one of the previous comments----Colleen Camp is absolutely beautiful, and has been since I first saw her in 'Apocalypse Now'. She also rocked in 'Valley Girl' (a little vehicle for Nicolas Cage back in the 80s). No one dared make any snide comments about Sally Kellerman (who was brilliant, as well). Ignorant comments notwithstanding, this show gives me hope for the future of this medium.
Posted by: Lee Ann | Sep 2, 2006 8:58:40 PM
First - if you like the latest episode, will you WILL FLIP OUT over the next three. The season finale is classic tv!
Second - for anyone who missed ANY episodes, we will be airing the entire season, in it's entirety, from the beginning, starting the week after episode 8 - every Friday at 11, Sunday at 11 and Wednesday at 8pm.
No need to worry!!!!

YAY!! CONNER'S BACK!!! Now why did he have to be wearing a shirt, again?!!? Loving the show! I don't miss an episode!! Is there a plan to renew the show for more episodes or just re-run the 6 or 8 originals? Anyone know?? I think Laura has hit a great stride with her character. Nichole is really unexpectedly hilarious. I love the dynamic between the two. And you know how hot I think Butch Klein (Conner) is...be still my heart!! Thank you guys for making such a cool, kick ass, and original show. Don't leave me!!
Posted by: Michael F | Sep 4, 2006 9:46:03 AM
Thanks, Evan, for assuring the admirers of this DIVINE show that the last 3 episodes are going to be unforgettable. I remember Laura Kightlinger's hilarious turns in 'Tenacious D', and she is by far one of the best comediennes since Carole Lombard///albeit a bitter, sarcastic, slutty version (God love her). Also, I love the little 'nod' to 'That Girl' in the start of each episode.
Keep it coming.

Hey, this show is SO well written! Where have these people been??
Why is it directed so badly though? What's up with that? It looks like a bad student filmmaker shot it. Too bad. The writing is so brilliant.
Please hire another director!

Hey, I agree with Cindy. I really like this show. It's got so much good stuff going, but it looks like crap.
I'm hooked. Can't wait to see the next one. The writing rocks and Laura is hot.

This show is the FUNNIEST TV SHOW ON RIGHT NOW!! Only 8 episodes?!?!?! NOOOO!! Please tell me they are going to film more! What am I going to do without Jackie and Tara? Me and my friends watch this show religiously.
and p.s. its even funnier when your high. :)
Posted by: erik andres | Sep 12, 2006 3:12:23 PM
Love, love, love this show. So it's ending? Why? Bring it back, please. After reading some of the other comments, I can see I am not the only fan. But, I must say it's true about the directing. A lot of the jokes are lost because it is not made well. Or something. It just looks a little amateurish. If the show looked more professionally-made it would be way better. The raw material is there. The filmmakers need to support it, not ruin it! So bring the show back! Just make it look better.
Posted by: reallywow | Sep 13, 2006 11:39:34 AM
I have not seen a more hilarious series ever. The ONLY exception could be one or two episodes of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia". Laura is a godsend for TV viewers that don't want to watch the same shit day after day after day... The chemistry between Tara and Laura is impeccable. The one-liners are brilliant. The best epi so far has to be "Peyote Ugly". The best line, "Pardon me for being crass, Lady CUNTington." I am writing to praise Laura and IFC for this gift and pray for them to produce more of this show beyond the original eight episodes.
Posted by: tony gusler | Sep 13, 2006 12:37:16 PM

I like the way the show is filmed. It adds to the fun.

There is a movie out now called Step Up. Every time I see a poster for it, I think of that first episode. I live for Friday nights when the next episode plays. Tonight is #7, I think. When they repeat I plan to tape them in order. When will the new season (if that's the right word) be out?

I love the show - it's hilarious. Laura has created a truly great "sitcom." Nicholle Tom is a revelation, and Azure is wonderful. Keep writing the dark material, guys. I can't wait to see what kind of trouble these wacky gals get into next...
Posted by: Theron | Sep 18, 2006 6:02:57 PM
Oops, I misspelled Azura Skye's name in my post yesterday. Sorry! She's great in everything I see her in, but I especially love her character on "Jackie Woodman." Skylar is incredibly shallow, with surprisingly deep pockets of intelligence scattered around. Azura really brings this character to life.
Posted by: Theron | Sep 19, 2006 4:20:38 PM
Excellent writing and performances all around. The funniest show no one else seems to know about. How about some more episodes please?

Jackie's dry, sarcastic sense of humor just kills me every episode. The script writing is phenomenal and she and Tara have great chemistry. You never know what trouble they're going to get themselves into next. I look forward to every new episode with great anticipation. Thank God for Tivo so I don't miss any episodes and can go back and watch episodes that I missed in the beginning before I heard about this show. Laura Kightlinger is a gem, a rare talent and is unbelievably sexy!

This is the best thing on IFC and IFC is the best thing on TV. HBO has never had a comedy series this intelligent (or this funny. Carrie Bradshaw can suck it.) Jackie is a self loathing anti-ingenue that I can get behind!
Posted by: charityslave | Oct 18, 2006 1:53:42 AM
Aaah! This show is a real breath of smoggy air. I'm very bummed about the short-sightedness of HBO to pull the plug on "Lucky Louie", however I hope it leaves Laura more time to expand beyond the 8 part arc of Minor Accomplishments. This show's not in the vane of "Curb Your ENthusiasm", this is what bled from the vein and I'm lovin' every bloody drop of it! Great balls out comedy!

Posted by: Alex | Oct 22, 2006 8:56:49 PM
I am sorry that I came in late to this brilliant comedy. Laura is more than outstanding. I would have to say she is the 21st century Lucille Ball but much funnier. Where I live it makes Sunday nights worthwhile. I hope that I can see it from the beginning. Once again Laura you are brilliant and thank you.
Posted by: scott mcintyre | Oct 24, 2006 1:11:31 AM
Damn, a summation of all that was Hollywood and is now intellectual slumming and self-loathing - Laura is unbelievably fetching, the writing an antidote to despair, the mise en scene captivating, and the leading man has the worst teeth of anyone west of Britain. Cheers to all!!

Please do more to promote this show if it is renewed. My wife and I caught all of the first run episodes and loved them all. Told many friends to watch it on the second airing and they are all loving it. None of them had heard anything about it until I mentioned it to them. Create more awareness outside of the channel. All of the actors on the show have been spectacularly funny. Keep up the good work!

I was lucky enough to stumble into the first episode, then I watched all the subsequent episodes and all the reruns. In other words, I've seen each episode four times... and I'm dying for more. Best show on TV. Is there somebody who can tell us: will there be a second season? Will the first season be coming out on DVD? If so, when? If not, why not?

Please help...put her face on a milk carton...I need more! This happened to me with an awesome faux soap called Pasedena with the chick from China Beach. Don't do this to me, man!

Gawd! I am so having withdrawals! And I want to know the name of the song/band that was playing when Jackie went into the Capt. Commando party. Remember, she was just rocking!!
Damn I miss this show! Bring it back with new episodes and I will also watch reruns!

Our wish has come true. Jackie Woodman has been renewed and will premiere in August 2007.
IFC's Hit Series The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman and The Business Renewed for Second Seasons Premiering August 2007
New York, NY, January 10, 2007 - The Independent Film Channel (IFC), the first and largest network dedicated to independent film, reaffirmed its commitment to expand the network's slate of original scripted programming with today's announcement of a pilot project and multiple deals in development. The network has ordered a pilot for a new comedy, ZO2 from MarkMark Productions (Parco P.I.), as well as an extensive list of script orders for projects including, Pornopolis, Elevated and Bad Habits. In addition, IFC announced that its two hit series, The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman and The Business are returning to the network for a second season in August 2007.
"IFC is focused on, and committed to, developing our original programming slate with unique content that aligns with the network's uncut, uncensored environment," said Evan Shapiro, IFC's Executive Vice President and General Manager. "We are beyond pleased with the critical-acclaim received from the first season of Minor Accomplishments and The Business and we look forward to continuing the momentum with more serial programming this year."
"It is very gratifying to see that our vision for original production is attracting key talent in the creative community and we're confident that our upcoming slate is going to yield outstanding television for the network," added Debbie DeMontreux, IFC's Vice President of Original Programming. "Minor Accomplishments and The Business are solid programming anchors that clearly resonate with our audience, and we're very excited to bring them back for a second season. The deals we have in development are compelling projects that also embody the spirit of IFC and apply that raw, edgy entertainment that differentiates IFC's programming within the television landscape."
Today's announcement builds on a successful year of original programming for IFC. In August 2006, the network debuted season one of The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman and The Business, both of which received overwhelming critical acclaim. IFC also released an ambitious slate of original documentaries and launched its first-ever theatrical release nationwide with its controversial documentary This Film Is Not Yet Rated, the breakthrough film from Oscar-nominated director Kirby Dick that offers an unprecedented investigation into the MPAA film ratings system and its profound impact on American culture. The film will make its network debut on IFC in March 2007. Additional projects scheduled for 2007 include original documentaries: The Bridge, a provocative, unflinching account of the suicides at San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge; Indie Sex, a documentary trilogy that explores the controversial, titillating and complicated topic of sex in cinema; Does Your Soul Have a Cold?, a compassionate look into the recent emergence of antidepressants in Japan; Darkon, follows the real-life adventures of an unusual group of weekend "warrior knights," fantasy role-playing gamers whose live-action "battleground" is modern-day Baltimore. In addition, the network will debut season two of The Henry Rollins Show, kicking off with a one-hour special, Henry Rollins: Uncut from Tel Aviv, documenting Rollins' two-night performance in the Israeli city, premiering April 13.
Following are descriptions of IFC's upcoming scripted projects:
ZO2 - (pilot)
A loosely scripted improvisational half-hour comedy, ZO2 follows one band with a dual identity: a real-life heavy metal rock band by night ("ZO2") that also moonlights as a kids' birthday band by day ("Z Brothers"). The series is based on the real stories of the New York City-based band's three rockers and the dual lives they lead. The pilot episode will explore the conflicts and comedy inherent in juggling these two lifestyles. Z02 is produced by MarkMark Productions.
Pornopolis
A one-hour dramatic script that chronicles the life of a seemingly average LA-based suburban family, however the parents happen to run a porn empire. Writers include Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey for World of Wonder Productions (Inside Deep Throat) with Laura Cahill (Hysterical Blindness).
Elevated
A half-hour script for a workplace comedy set in a governmental counter-terrorism agency. Elevated is written by Jason Reich (The Daily Show).
Bad Habits
A one-hour dramatic script based on a group of people each struggling with various addictions from alcoholism to drug abuse to sex addiction. Written by Gary Lennon (.45, Blackout, Drunks).
Series Renewals:
The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman, Season 2 (comedy; 8 episodes; 1/2 hour)
This comedy series created by, written by and starring Laura Kightlinger (writer - Will and Grace, Roseanne) is an uncomfortable, herky-jerky romp through today's Hollywood. Season two takes off right where the last season left off: Jackie Woodman (Kightlinger) and her best friend Tara Wentzel (Nicholle Tom) are still in search of their talents, some recognition, a purpose and a hangover-proof martini. The not-so-dynamic duo find themselves in a whole new array of circumstances... Will Jackie and Tara find what they're looking for at an industry-wide film market? At a nightclub where Jackie's mother's country-western band is playing? In the pocket of Tara's boss's nephew's jacket? In a cafe that Jackie used to frequent until it was overrun by narcissistic young mothers and their breast-feeding infants? As they seek the answers, Jackie and Tara will continue to blow opportunities...shatter illusions...slightly increase the pool of common suffering...and disappoint those who believe in them...all with the best of intentions, the worst of judgment and an utter lack of interpersonal skills. The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman is created by and starring Laura Kightlinger, written by David Punch and Laura Kightlinger; Executive Produced by Randy Barbato and Fenton Bailey for World of Wonder Productions, Laura Kightlinger and David Punch, and Adam and Mark Kassen of Kassen Bros Productions; Consulting Producers: Jeremy S. Kramer and Hugh Davidson.
The Business, Season 2 (comedy; 8 episodes; 1/2 hour)
The Business, season two, follows the same ensemble cast of characters from season one on another misadventure in indie film-land. Having just received critical and commercial success with the release of their indie-horror film, "House of Fear," the founders of the production company Vic's Flicks are unsure of how to deal with their newfound and unfamiliar success. The Business stars and is executive produced by Kathleen Robertson, directed by Phil Price and produced by Brandi-Ann Milbradt, both of Philms Pictures Inc.

The show is only marginally funny, I couldn't believe when I heard IFC was bringing it back. I watched all 8 episodes and although the production value visually was very good, considering th shoestring budgets, to think that Laura Kightlinger is a preformer is a stretch. Aside from the freaky plastic surgery looks (she doesn't think that no one notices does she?) she couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. Who told her she was an actress? Does she know that she can't just stand there and recite the lines to be considered an actor. I've seen her stand up it's just OK. She may be a talented writer, she should stick to that. nicholle Tom is the real talent of the show. Laura K and that David Punch guy, should figure out a way to Kill Jackie off, and make the show about Tara. That way it would have a chance at being a decent show. If it continues the same path as season 1, the upcoming season will be a disaster. Last year it was kind of a novelty show. The more you watch Laura the more you realize she shouldn't be staring in her own show. IFC should not spend too much money this season, because the show seems on a path to no where.

Neil, You don't have to watch if you don't like it. Please don't drone on about why you didn't like watching each episode.Bla Bla Bla. You are worse that Laura's plastic surgery. I am sure that you will watch each of the upcoming episodes and have problems with those as well. Why don't you do us a favor and go do something else when the show is on? I am sure your Star Wars action figures need a dusting. The show is brilliant and is being renewed because it was a well recieved show but I am sure that since YOU did not like it they should just go ahead and cancel it. "Hey, Neil does not like the show so let's cancel it".Can't wait for the first episode this summer.
Posted by: Rippa | Mar 7, 2007 8:08:13 PM
Rippa, I will watch the show, because I am a fan of IFC, and appreciate the content of the channel as a whole. I thought this forum was set up to hear opinions. Your opinion is that the show is BRILLIANT. Don't you have a copy of Howard The Duck you need to watch? I honestly don't feel like any of our opinions here will decide the fate of the show. I have a problem with Laura Kightlingers talent as an actress. I also find it difficult to look at her and not think, that poor woman has had too much work done on her face. There may be some good things about the show, but in my opinion her acting isn't one of them. I did say Nicholle Tom is very good and worth watching. So Rippa, i think you should pull the old dictionary off the shelf and look up the word BRILLIANT. I think marginally funny is more like it.
PS,,, my Star Wars figures are well tended to every day, they never need dusting.

Thank Jesus "Minor Accomplishments" is coming back. It's like Absolutely Fabulous on crack. And speaking of crack, I have needed a fix since last Fall. I only pray they replay the last 8 episodes as a sweet sweet teaser before unveiling the new masterpieces.

Laura Kightlinger is a comedic genius! She's smart, subtle and sexy as hell!! IFC rocks for scooping her up...It's the perfect match!!! Is the first season going to be released on DVD before the second one airs????? I hope so....This show is the best comedy on TV.
Posted by: Jen | Mar 22, 2007 6:59:20 PM
Hmmmmm, I wonder what business Neill is in???? Is Laura K Meryll Streep? No. Is she trying to be? I don't think so...It's called subtle comedy, small fry and you wouldn't know it if it hit you in the brain because you don't have on. It's about her reactions and no about over-the-top, writing or performing. It's genius and probably just over your head. Enjoy the midwest.
Posted by: jen | Mar 22, 2007 7:07:07 PM
Right, Jen I think. Not sure what your trying to say, but you should stop cutting the typing class at your high school. I think you were trying to be insulting in some way. Again, the talent level and the show as a whole can only be considered mediocre. If you can't take it from me a humble New York boy (never been to the Midwest, I don't think it would be a bad think. Apparently Jen thinks being from the midwest is not hip. Must be what the kids are saying in her high school) look up any review on the show and see what the critics said. I don't always go by reviews, but in this case they were mostly correct. Some that really panned the show might of went too far. To use words like brilliant and genius is over the top. I don't feel like much gets over my head certainly not the comedy of this show. I did pick up a catch phrase from the show I've been using over the past few months.
"Lady Cuntington", I love it, very useful.

I think this show is hilarious. I do agree with Neil that Nicholle Tom is the best part.

very funny show.

For what it's worth, Laura Kightlinger has not had plastic surgery. She had JAW surgery and SKULL surgery because - if you'll bear with a non-expert description - her bones were not joined properly and her jaw was drifting out of alignment, causing her excruciating headaches. If you've seen her standup, she does a hilarious bit about her multiple (and still ongoing) procedures featuring giant projections of her medical x-rays. Just want to set the record straight on that. Also, in my opinion, Laura is an extremely intelligent and rare talent.

Does anyone know when season 2 begins? I'm getting antsy...

Jackie returns August Nearly same title of show.
Just saw an IFC teaser for series return in August, Teaser is one where the
two girl friends are doing a "She's my bitch, No, she's my bitch" routine.
Super cool funny series.
In meanwhile I'm finally catching up on the D-List series of Kathy Griffin.
Not as big a fan as of Jackie W but KG does grow on you unlike
The Simple Life Goes to Camp. Worn out on the flatness of concept.
Also DVD of first season is scheduled fot 7/17/07.
Nothing at IFC website yet. Think they'd have it posted.
hmm iMDB has this, anyway looks like return for sure.
