Listless.
Sorry, all...an all-day company meeting yesterday and swamped today. So we turn to that savior of harried content-seekers everywhere, the list. A list list:
The Onion A.V. Club's got a two-fer: the always reliable Scott Tobias puts together a list for "A Decade Of Underrated Movies" that's guaranteed to make you want to argue with him, while The Underrated List is a catch-all of people/shows/concepts the staff feels are currently undervalued. And how can we find fault with this:
Underrated guilty pleasure: The user comments and message boards at IMDB.com
Why? Why read reviews of films from people who might know what they're talking about when you can peruse uninformed, semi-literate opinions? The Internet Movie Database's user comments and message boards represent the apogee of the Internet's democratic possibilities, offering a public forum for everyone with a computer and an irresistible need to express themselves on why "Father Of The Bride Part II" is the finest film ever made, and/or why it demands a sequel. With their tortured logic, horrific abuse of the English language and rampant misspellings, the site's interactive areas are like the entertainment section of the world's biggest, sloppiest college newspaper.
The evidence: The commentary heralding "Father Of The Bride Part II" as the apex of cinematic art.
Truer words, unnamed Onion staffer. We've spent a long hour reveling in how a post on how pretty Gary Dourdan's eyes are leads into a flame-filled discussion of ethnic migration.
Speaking of, IMDb turns 15 this week, and shares its editorial staff and founders' top 15 films from the past 15 years.
Boston.com offers up a quirky and far more interesting "top 50 scary movies" list than Total Film's.
And we here at IFC News tried for the scariest non-horror films. Don't laugh, "The Abyss" freaked us out (but then we've also always had this odd phobia involving the planet Jupiter. That you can laugh at.).
