Shining on.

"He's a writer looking for inspiration..."25-year-old editor’s assistant Robert Ryang's winning entry to the Association of Independent Creative Editor's New York "Trailer Park" competition has been making the web rounds for good reason — the rules were to create a cross-genre trailer for an established film, and Ryang manages to transform "The Shining" into a truly heart-warming chunk of hokum. Watch it at the LA Times, where Geoff Boucher has a short write-up. David Halbfinger at the New York Times has an interview with Ryang.

There are a few other competition entries floating out on the web: Paul LaCalandra makes "The Parent Trap" into a lesbian love story (go here, click on "Paul LaCalandra," then choose the third clip from the left, reading "ordinary girls..."), Tom Colella makes "West Side Story" into the tale of an urban zombie outbreak (here), and Dustin Stephens makes "Titanic" into a horror movie (here).

+ His 'Secret' Movie Trailer Is No Secret Anymore (NY Times)

Now that's entertainment! Or putting an interesting twist on it. Just saw the trailer for The Shining (the movie I saw through my fingers when I was a kid), anyways it's great! Brilliant even!
