The domestic trailer for Almodóvar's "Volver" is here; the quality isn't fantastic. The film is getting released by Sony Pictures Classics in November, and SPC is offering a rerelease of eight Almodóvar films, starting in August. "Viva Pedro" will include:

"Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown" (originally released in Spain and the United States in 1988)

"All About My Mother" (originally released in Spain and the United States in 1999)

"Talk to Her" (originally released in Spain and the United States in 2002)

"Flower of My Secret" (originally released in Spain in 1995 and the United States in 1996)

"Live Flesh" (originally released in Spain in 1996 and the United States in1997)

"Law of Desire" (originally released in Spain and the United States in 1987)

"Matador" (originally released in Spain in 1986 and the United States in 1988)

"Bad Education" (originally released in Spain and the United States in 2004)

In other news of Cannes selections trickling into theaters, Scott Macaulay at the Filmmaker blog points out the new "Marie Antoinette" trailer, here, and notes that the film's trailers continue to be set to excellent period-inappropriate music, in this case Aphex Twin, Gang of Four and New Order's "Ceremony."

Rex Sorgatz at Fimoculous finds two "Southland Tales" clips up on YouTube, both lifted from the film's official site: here and here. "And once you get on the Bangbus, you never get off..."

And while we're exploring the magic of YouTube — an English-subtitled trailer for "Death Note," the live-action adaptation of the massively popular manga series of the same name that opened in Japan three weeks ago and that's on its way to becoming, as Mark Schilling puts it in his review in the Japan Times, "the decade's biggest Japanese horror(ish) hit," is here. Ah, "horror(ish)." If only words met genres as effortlessly as one footballer's forehead can meet another's unsuspecting sternum. Interestingly, "Death Note," like "Kill Bill" volumes 1 and 2 and "Pirates of the Caribbean" 2 and 3, is getting a two-part release, apparently without audiences kicking up a fuss; the second part comes out in November.
